Neurodivergent Middle Schoolers are Cool (They Just Don’t Know it Yet)
Middle school is a formative time when social hierarchies, academic transitions, and identity questions all come to a head. For neurodivergent adolescents, these years are particularly nuanced, woven with both overwhelming challenges and hidden strengths yet to be uncovered. But when seen through the right lens, their unique perspectives are not only valid… they’re an asset.
Understanding the Emotional Load
Recent research shows that neurodivergent students (i.e. those with autism, ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia, etc.) carry twice the emotional burden at school compared to their neurotypical peers. This burden stems from frequent social misunderstandings and more intense emotional reactions to everyday stressors.
